Installing Glazing Below an Overhang with the URW-547 Mini Spider Crane

Spider Plus, the official UAE dealer for UNIC Cranes Europe, recently took on a challenging glazing project for a luxury villa in Jumeirah Bay, Dubai. Tasked with installing large glass panels under tight spatial constraints, the team used the URW-547 Mini Spider Crane and the GL-UMC 600 Glass Manipulator to overcome the project’s unique obstacles with precision and ease.

The Challenge

This high-end villa presented several significant challenges:

  • Lifting under a 2.5m overhang: The project required lifting glass panels under a low overhang without compromising accuracy.
  • Limited clearance: There was just 0.25m of space between the glass and the floor during installation.
  • Working height: The 15 glazing units needed to be installed at a height of up to 8m, with each unit weighing up to 560kg and measuring 3.4m x 2.5m.

The Solution

To address these complexities, Spider Plus relied on the innovative capabilities of the URW-547 Mini Spider Crane and the GL-UMC 600 Glass Manipulator.

  • URW-547 Mini Spider Crane: Known for its compact size, the URW-547 was ideal for navigating the villa’s tight spaces. With its outriggers retracted, the crane measures only 1400mm wide, allowing it to easily fit between structures. Despite its small footprint, the URW-547 provides impressive performance, offering a maximum lifting height of up to 18.2m and a capacity of 4 tons. This allowed the team to effortlessly lift the heavy glazing units to the required height.

  • GL-UMC 600 Glass Manipulator: Precision was key in this installation, and the GL-UMC 600 delivered. With 360° continuous rotation, 35° head slew, and 120° tilt, this robotic attachment allowed for fine adjustments during the glass installation, all controlled via radio remote. Its 600kg capacity ensured the large glazing panels could be precisely tilted, maneuvered under the overhang, and positioned upright for installation.

The Result

Spider Plus successfully installed all 15 glazing units under the villa’s overhang, overcoming the challenges of limited space and clearance. The combination of the URW-547 and GL-UMC 600 demonstrated their ability to handle even the most complex projects with accuracy and ease.
